Top 10 Gamer Facts | Our Wins
Dear Fellow Gamer:
I don't have to tell you that some politicians in Washington and the states have been attacking video games, calling on government to enact laws to regulate this modern day form of entertainment. As gamers, we know that video games have the same wide range of content that can be found in other entertainment choices such as movies, books, and music. As far as I am concerned, there is no reason to target video games for harsher treatment than any other media. I hope you agree, and will join me to do something about it.
Video games are a new and quickly evolving medium, but our critics do not understand the medium because most do not even play these games. Our choice of entertainment is a fully protected form of artistic expression and free speech under the Constitution, and one court after another has ruled that video games have the same First Amendment protection as books, movies, music, and cable television programs. If video game sales to minors are regulated based upon their content, as some politicians propose, the end result could be diluted and duller storylines as many game publishers will not be able to take the same risks that lead to great, innovative movies, books, and music. This is not right!
What can you do to fight this threat? Become a part of the first line of defense in protecting the games that we love to play by joining the Video Game Voters Network. The Network has been created to provide gamers a place to learn more about the threats to video games and to take action. We can't afford to just sit back while our games become subject to government regulation! Take a stand today. Take action at http://www.videogamevoters.org.
Sincerely,
Will Wright
